where you are, if you are looking for the best ski slope, come to auli.
And for those
who yearn to learn, no other place matches auli. It offers exciting skiing opportunities
to both the beginner as the advanced skier. Aside from a 3km long slope
(ranging from 2519m to 3049m) it offers an 180o panoramic view of
the peaks like the nanda devi, kamet, mana parvat and dunagiri. Tall stately
deodar forest flanking the slope cut wind velocity to the minimum. The ideal
time to be here is from January to March. And that is when GMVN conducts 7-day
courses (registration from and schedule attached). Training is imparted by
skiiled and qualified instruction from GMVN.
Other hot
spots for enthusiasts Baituli dhar and khalia
(munsiyari) in kumaon, where KMVN conducts skiing courses as well as gives out
ski equipment on hire.
Infrastructure available at
Auli
- Hotel accommodation and tourist bungalows and guest houses at Auli/ joshimath for 1000 person
- 13 kms metalled road from joshimath to Auli
- 3.9kms long cable car from joshimath to Auli 500 mts long ski lift, 800 mts long chair lift with two snow packing machines for maintaining ski slope.
- Latest ski equipment’s with GMVN’s own, trained and qualified ski instructors.
- Wireless and telephone communication.
- Medical (first aid) facility available at Auli along with medical assistance from ITBP Auli, army minimum of -9 degrees C to a maximum of 2 degrees c. requires heavy woollen clothes.
- Professional skiers can attempt a ski run for the gorson top, which is at an attitude of 3400 mst.
Accessibility
Easily accessible, state transport vehicles ply regularly from
Joshimath to Rishikesh (253kms) Haridwar (277kms) and delhi (500kms). Luxury coaches
for a party of 15 or more can also be arranged if reserved in advance. Moreover
haridwar is also connected by rail. Daily air service from Delhi to jolly grant
and back. (26kms from Dehradun, on the way to Rishikesh. For more details, and

Equipment
GMVN has the entire paraphernalia required for skiing
activities, including the most alpine and Nordic skis, gloves and goggles. Participants
are advised to bring along necessary woollen clothing like a cap, four pairs of
thick socks, gloves, a muffler, one jersey, long-johns, a wind proof jacket,
gum/snow, boots, toilet articles, dark glasses, a sewing kit and a torch light.
Please note that GMVN equipment is available not only to participants of ski
courses but also to day visitor.
Skiing Courses
GMVN Conducts skiing courses of 7 day (non-certificate) as
well as 14 day (certificate) duration in the months of Jan to march.
